The issue focuses on the role played by the senses in the arts from the Late Middle Ages until now. Topics addressed by Polish and International scholars include: the sensory engagement with devotional sculptures, the role of the sense of smell and taste in still-life paintings, multisensory art exhibitions. The volume opens with four statements of curators, art historians and artists about the meaning of the senses in their practices. The reader is also invited to explore essays of a broader methodological scope, which seek to provide a theoretical framework for dealing with the senses in making and experiencing art.
