Self-organization in a big city slums. The case of Lima

The book examines self-organizing practices of the inhabitants of Lima's marginal neighborhoods, known as poverty districts. Spontaneous cooperation is one of the ways to improve living conditions and ensure urban development, although it is sometimes limited, e.g. by particularism of interests or corruption. The book searches for answers to the questions: what influences activation of the collective potential, to what extent its manifestations depend on regional conditions and whether social activity strengthens civic virtues.
