The Styles of Upbringing and the Discrepancy Between Self-Evaluation and Individual Standards of the Wards of Former Orphanages
The author presents the research conducted at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, in line with the studies on institutional care for children in the case of severely dysfunctional family. Despite the passage of time, reliable studies on formalised area of care are still few and far between. The childcare system in Poland was substantially reformed after the democratic transition. The orphanages where the research was conducted over 40 years ago do not exist. Did the results obtained then, which describe the styles of upbringing and their connection with the important personality mechanisms of young people, justify the direction of the reform? The monograph has a historical dimension, yet the image of the pedagogical interactions and the need to monitor the functioning of the foster care institutions invariably remain an important subject of research.
