Lectures on Social Philosophy. Volume 2

Two volumes of Lectures on Social Philosophy by Jakub Kloc-Konkołowicz (1975–2021) contain a one-year academic course, reconstructed from the recordings of two cycles: 2019/20 and 2020/21. The course begins with a presentation of an ambitious understanding of the tasks of social philosophy, then the fundamentals of modern contractualism and liberalism are discussed, followed by their most important critiques, including in particular those based on classical German philosophy. Volume 2, corresponding to the summer semester of the course, contains lectures on the critical reception of liberalism and modern contractualism, mainly in the field of German philosophy. It discusses the concepts of Fichte, Hegel, Marx, Horkheimer and Adorn, Arendt and Rawls. In the course of the presentation, there are also significant references to the views of Aristotle, Benjamin, Nozick and other thinkers. The central element of the argument is an accessible discussion of selected positions of classical German philosophy (Fichte, Hegel), touching on many topics little known to Polish recipients. The author, however, also refers in the volume to the concepts that go beyond this tradition. The volume finishes with a short recapitulation devoted to social philosophy in general.

Keywords: social philosophy, German philosophy, idealism, contractualism, liberalism.
