This work presents extensive research on the Great Terror inflicted on ethnic Poles, focusing on Kam’ianets’-Podil’s’kyi. This focus is justified, because it was an area with one of the highest concentration of ethnic Poles in Soviet Ukraine at the time. The strength of this work lies in the detailed analyses of individual cases of repres¬sion. Taken together, they afford a vivid sense of the terror of the time. The author amply demonstrates that the victims came from all walks of life and that it is difficult to discern any particular groups of people that were targeted for destruction. They were terrorized for being Poles, as the book title claims.
