GUIDELINES FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE ILLUSTRATION IN THE ELECTRONIC VERSION FOR THE PUBLICATION BY THE UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW PRESS (UWP)



1. Each illustration should be provided in a separate file; file names should match the names (numbers) of the illustrations in the text.

    Note: illustrations inserted into a text file in Word are not suitable for further use.


2. Acceptable file formats containing illustrations:

  • photos, scanned illustrations: eps, tif, jpg, bmp
  • charts, diagrams, maps: png, cdr, ai, eps


3. The resolution of all illustrations may not be lower than 300 dpi, except for scanned line illustrations whose resolution may not be lower than 600 dpi


4. How to prepare charts, diagrams, maps:

  • line thickness: contour lines with a thickness of 0.5 p .; guide lines – 0.25 p .; graph lines or other highlighted lines 0.7-1 p.
  • degree of writing descriptions: preferably 8-9 points (not less than 7.5 points)
  • black and white drawings: gray intensity not less than 10% Black, not more than 80% Black; gradation of shades of gray every 15-20% (e.g. 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%)
  • color drawings: intended for printing - the colors should be saved in the CMYK model; color drawings for electronic publications - colors saved in the RGB model
  • texts placed on gray background: black texts can be placed on gray background not exceeding 25% Black; white texts (in reverse) should be placed on a gray background darker than 25% Black, for opposite texts we use the following font types: Regular, Medium or Bold (we do not use the Light version)
  • illustration scale: 1:1.
  • texts in illustrations and drawings should not be changed into curves


5. Method of preparing scanned photos and illustrations:

  • illustrations intended for printing - colors recorded in the CMYK model; illustrations for electronic publications - colors recorded in the RGB model
  • scale of illustrations: recommended by min. 25% larger than the target format


6. The way of transmitting the illustration

  • emailing
  • sending via WeTransfer system
  • on a pendrive
  • uploading to UWP FTP (after prior agreement with the managing editor)
