Baroque. History – Literature – Art
The interdisciplinary biannual journal Baroque. History – Literature – Art. is an international periodical. It has been in existence since 1994. It is one of the most important contemporary interdisciplinary specialist journals devoted to detailed issues of broadly understood cultural history (including the history of literature, art, music and philosophy) and focuses its research on the Polish and European Baroque.
The results of their research are published in Barok by leading specialists in the fields of history, literary history, art history, philosophy, musicology and bibliology – researchers associated with academic circles in Poland and most European countries (including the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus). Importantly, Barok is also a multi-generational journal, which has enabled many young, novice researchers to make their academic debut.
Each issue consists of regular sections (Dissertations and essays, Unpublished works and problems of unpublished works, Problems and discussions surrounding exhibitions, Discussions and reviews, Reviews and notes, Scientific chronicle, Chronicle of the University of Warsaw) – discusses the most important research issues related to a specific topic. In recent years, the journal has featured wide-ranging academic discussions on particularly interesting topics, such as humanism, court culture, emblems and allegories, the Saxon era, wars and armed conflicts, as well as issues of Baroque religiosity and Sarmatism.
The founder of the journal is Prof. Janusz Pelc, PhD, and the editor-in-chief is Radosław Rusnak, PhD, from the Institute of Polish Literature at the University of Warsaw.
