Religious Cultures, Borderland Cultures: Ethnographic Collages Presented to Professor Magdalena Zowczak
This volume is dedicated to Professor Magdalena Zowczak – long-time employee of the University of Warsaw, outstanding researcher of religious cultures, borderlands, religious and national minorities, identity and art, author of groundbreaking works such as Biblia ludowa. Interpretacje wątków biblijnych w kulturze ludowej (The Folk Bible: Interpretations of Biblical Themes in Folk Culture) and Religijność na pogranicach. Eseje apokryficzne (Religiousness on the Borderlands: Apocryphal Essays), and a committed mentor who has supported successive generations of anthropologists. The anthology consists of texts by authors who met Professor Magdalena Zowczak at various stages of their ethnographic journey and in various ways explore topics close to her heart: borders and borderlands from a grassroots perspective, the religious cultures of minority groups, the relationship between science and faith. The volume includes texts written from the perspective of various disciplines – anthropology, art history, religious studies – offering a fresh look at topics key to the study of the influence of religion on cultural identity.
