Oriens et Septentrio. Studies and essays on history
The author analyzes various research problems in archaeology, history, and in the interpretation of source texts. He discusses – among the others – history and architecture of the important cult center of ancient Egypt at Dendera, the historical references to the so-called Number of the Beast from the biblical Apocalypse of St. John, and various aspects of the ancient and medieval history of Polish lands, such as the origins of the names of the legendary founders of the Piast dynasty and the origins of the name Prussia. The author combines the perspective of an active archaeologist working on excavations with that of a linguist whose analysis is based on the written sources.
Keywords: ancient Egypt, Dendera, Biblical studies, Apocalypse of St. John, legendary founders of Piast dynasty, Dagome iudex.
