Overcoming the Status Determination of Educational Careers

The theoretical considerations and research questions and hypotheses presented in the book are connected to the phenomenon of academic resilience, defined as a higher probability of achieving success in school despite facing setbacks caused by the ascribed traits of the individual, his/her life circumstances and experiences. Students described as being “academically resilient” uphold a high level of educational achievements despite the presence of stressful conditions and events during their studies.

Dr Marek Smulczyk – deals with psychology and sociology of education. For several years, he has been conducting research on the quality of education, measuring competences and monitoring school achievements. He participated in international research programs such as TEDS-M, ICILS, PISA (2009, 2012 and 2015 editions). He coordinated the implementation of Polish educational panels for the Central Examination Board, the Educational Research Institute and the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He graduated from psychology and pedagogy studies at the University of Warsaw, where he currently works. Academic lecturer and trainer in the field of social psychology and pedagogy. Author of several scientific articles and chapters in scientific monographs.
