Many of the articles in the issue revolve around the topic of war, starting with the very personal Dziennik czasów zarazy (Diary of the Times of Plague), which serves as a kind of introduction to the volume. War themes are reflected especially in its third section, titled Authors of egodocuments in the face of war and violence. This part includes an analysis of the memoirs of Salomea Regina Pilsztynowa, née Rusiecka, which show war as one of the phenomena of everyday life; a juxtaposition of various depictions of the story of the destruction of Sodom – in the biblical context, in the poetry of Hryhorii Skovoroda, and in relation to current war events; a peculiar self-portrait against the backdrop of the times of violence sketched on the basis of letters, paintings, and memoirs of the painter Kateryna Bilokur; a presentation of accounts of war refugees from Ukraine in the process of cultural adaptation in Poland; and memoirs of the Ukrainian writer, teacher, and activist Konstantyna Malytska from her five-year stay in Siberia, where she was deported in 1915 by the Russians.

The topics of the articles in the rest of the issue are more varied. The first section, Ad Fontes, includes source analyses of the 12th-century Instruction written for his sons by Vladimir Monomakh, Grand Prince of Kiev, and the speech of the Metropolitan of Kiev, Gregory Tsamblak at the Council of Constance in 1415, as well as a presentation of the results of archival and archaeological research on Pylyp Orlyk’s stay at the hetman’s residence in Baturyn at the side of Ivan Mazepa, and an analysis of the anthropology of war in the context of Orlyk’s diary from 1720-1723.

Finally, the second section, In the Circle of Polish-Ukrainian Contacts. Issues of Literary Comparatistics, encompasses an analysis – from the point of view of translation theory and practice – of the works of poet, philosopher, and composer Hryhorii Skovoroda translated into Polish; an analysis of artistic translation and its criteria on the example of the translation into Ukrainian of Robert Burns’ Ballads; a look at the role of Latin in the intellectual life of 20th- and 21st-century Europeans; a synthetic presentation of translations of Ukrainian literature into Polish from the interwar period to the present day, with a simultaneous analysis of the Polish-Ukrainian cultural dialogue based on literary exchange.
