Selected Jewish Motifs in Jorge Luis Borges’ Works
The publication is an attempt to analyse Jewish motifs in the works of Jorge Luis Borges, one of the greatest 20th century writers. A careful reading of the works of the Argentinian author – poems, novels, short stories, essays, reviews, articles, translations, prologues and anthologies – shows a surprising number of references to Jewish culture and traditions. The author focuses on the motifs previously ignored or merely signalled by other researchers, such as friendships and literary fascinations of the writer, Israel, or Jewish characters in Borges’ prose.
Keywords: Jews, Latin America, Argentina, Iberian and Latin American literature, Jorge Luis Borges.
