Twelve chapters gathered in this volume, despite drawing on different methodologies, are united by a common theme: the cultural, historical and linguistic peculiarities of the city of Wilamowice and its inhabitants – Vilamovians. They also share the engaged character of work, pointed out in the title of the book, and understood as a sense of social responsibility for research conducted with the conscious and active participation of the local community. Thus, the results of research projects, reflections on fieldwork experience and methodological propositions presented by the individual authors may become an inspiration and model for everyone interested in the subject of linguistic minorities and working on behalf of marginalized and voiceless groups.
