Grodno/Hrodna: A Historical Encycloped
Grodno/Hrodna was the seat of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania and Polish kings, the capital of the province and a royal city. Its history spans over 1,000 years, during which it witnessed numerous wars as well as periods of peace conducive to the development of the economy, education and culture. It had its ups and downs. It is worth ensuring that future generations of its inhabitants learn about the history of the city, which is recounted in this book – its people, streets and architecture. The author has endeavoured to present this history truthfully and objectively, as far as the sources and literature available to him allowed, a list of which is included in the second part of the book. It is up to the reader to judge how successful he has been.
