The Source Study of Jan Długosz’s Catalogue of the Archbishops of Gniezno
This monograph is the first comprehensive study of Jan Długosz’s Catalogue of the Archbishops of Gniezno. Długosz (d. 1480) was one of the most eminent Polish historians of the Middle Ages. The book examines both the content and the form of the work, as well as its manuscript tradition from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century, interpreting it as a reflection of Długosz’s historical memory. It contributes to our understanding of the chronicler's historiographical practice and offers an innovative application of memory studies to the study of medieval textual culture.
