Computer Games: A Risky Twelfth Muse? The Identification of Psychological Aspects of Problem Gaming
The publication introduces the reader to the problem of computer games. The author explains the important differences between platforms and types of games, describes the profile of a Polish player and the main principles of e-sport, i.e. competitive professional players in virtual games, the role of the gaming industry in the economy and the positive and negative consequences of gaming. As a psychologist dealing with behavioural addictions, he presents the results of his own research concerning so called problem gaming, identifies the symptoms, gives diagnostic criteria, risk factors, development mechanisms and analyses the role of games in addictions and shows methods of treatment.
