The presented issue is entirely monographic. Its subject is the issue of broadly understood modernisation – records of its ideas and practices in Polish literature from the end of the nineteenth century, through the twentieth century, to the first decades of the present century. The authors of the individual articles reflect on various dimensions of modernisation processes and transformations determining the shape of Polish reality of the past 150 years. They reveal these processes and transformations in economic, historical, political, social and cultural perspectives. The presented examinations of their literary depictions form a complex and multi-threaded panorama of Polish modernity.
