"Good Blood". Henry Sienkiewicz Between Noble State Proto-racism and Class Racism (Trilogy and Contemporary Novels)

The monograph is devoted to the problem of racist social divisions in six novels written by Henryk Sienkiewicz, i.e. “historical” Trilogy: With Fire and Sword (1884), The Deluge (1886) and Sir Michael (1888), as well as in so-called “contemporary trilogy”: Without Dogma (1890), The Polaniecki Family (1895) and Whirpools (1910). Looking at these works in the context of different forms of class and “race” intertwined leads to the conclusion that although the writer “only” reconstructed the noble state proto-racism, at the same time he was not free from class racism.

Keywords: Henryk Sienkiewicz, noble state proto-racism, class racism, historical novel, contemporary novel.
