Long-distance Care. The Transnational Worlds of Filipino Migrants in the United States
The book is an anthropological study of transnational life of Filipino migrants in the United States: migrants who build their lives in a new place, but care about those who remain in their country of origin. The author, on the basis of multi-sited ethnographic research, follows the category of 'long-distance care', which allows for a deep analysis of individual and community activities in two research contexts: in migrant families and in development projects in the home country. The book opens a debate on the phenomenon of long-distance care, the different statuses available to migrants abroad, and the power relations created between migrants and those receiving their help.
Keywords: migration, transnationalism, family, care, long-distance care, Philippines, the United States of America
