The monograph documents a novel method of extraction of the gluon polarisation in the nucleon, presenting results from its application to data from the COMPASS experiment at CERN, in which the Physics Faculty of the University of Warsaw is engaged. The topic addressed in this publication is related to the so-called spin polarisation puzzle – one the fundamental problems of nucleon structure, which remains unsolved since 30 years. The author, besides the detailed discussion of the gluon polarisation method, describes the historical context of the spin measurements, the theory of deep inelastic scattering with polarised beams and polarised targets, gives details of the COMPASS experiment and discusses various nuances concerning the data analysis. The publication is a helpful study aid for students and physicists whose aim is to study the spin structure of the nucleon.
