Publishing models

The University of Warsaw Press
(Wydawnictwa Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego – WUW) publish in the following publishing models:

1. Commercial – the publications released on paper and electronically are shared and sold through online bookstores, wholesalers, and CEEOL databases.

2. Open Access – the publications released electronically are shared for free on the website of WUW’s online bookstore in the OPEN ACCESS tab.

3. Hybrid – the publications released on paper and electronically are shared and sold through online bookstores, wholesalers, and CEEOL databases; after one year or once the print run is sold out, they are moved to the open access model and are shared for free on the website of WUW's bookstore in the OPEN ACCESS tab.

The monographs of WUW available in the Open Access tab are published under Creative Commons or other licences determined in agreement with the author. The detailed logos of types of licences are located in the description of the particular publication on the website of WUW’s bookstore and on the editorial page of the publication.

Publishing Process

1. The author sends to WUW the publication proposal complying with the guidelines listed on the WUW’s website.

2. After approving the proposal at the editorial board meeting (once a week), the managing editor is assigned, who since then coordinates the whole publishing process of this work.

3. The managing editor prepares the cost estimate of the publication (effective for half a year since release) and sends it to the author.

4. WUW chooses two independent reviewers according to the rules of the review process. The reviews are delivered to the author, who prepares a response to the reviews and introduces potential corrections in the text.

5. The publication is formally added to the WUW’s publishing schedule once it received two positive reviews, has confirmed funding, and the author submitted to WUW a complete set of materials after the post-review adjustments.

6. The forwarded text is additionally verified by WUW using the plagiarism detection software iThenticate.

7. WUW consults the formal and legal matters (conclusion of the contracts, rights to the borrowed elements) with the author.

8. WUW commissions the editing of the text and after the acceptance of the adjustments by the author sends the materials to the DTP studio.

9. WUW prepares the design of the cover.

10. After the DTP, WUW commissions the first and the second proof and revision (the first proof is also the author’s proof).

11. The indexes are prepared during the second proof.

12. After the author’s acceptance of the final version of the publication WUW sends it to the printing house and/or commissions the preparation of the e-version (e-pub, mobi, pdf on-line).

13. After printing the publication WUW verifies the technical parameters and sends the print run for distribution.

Distribution, promotion

WUW starts the distribution through their own online bookstore oraz book wholesalers and other online bookstores. The publication is entered into the CEEOL database. The information about the publication is included in the WUW’s social media: Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram. The promotion meetings are organised, the publication is presented at book fairs, and it can also be submitted to publishing competitions.

Archiving

All materials and publications are secured by making backup copies stored at WUW.
