Methodological Reefs in Human Resource Management Studies

Textbooks do not differentiate between methodologies depending on whether the object of research is material resources or people. The author, who has been conducting research on people and teaching data analysis for over 40 years, described in her monograph the RAFY (threats), whose lack of awareness means that the development of social sciences is not as dynamic as the technological leap we are experiencing at every turn.

After reading the monograph, we will remember that:
(1) people can be randomly selected, but they cannot be forced to allow themselves to be ‘measured’;
(2) people do not respond to stimuli, e.g. instructions, but to their own interpretation of them;
(3) the diversity of cognitive, emotional and behavioural responses of the people studied to the same stimulus is much greater than that of biological responses.

The body's reaction to a sedative injection may be easy to predict; however, the response to a sedative message may result in assimilation (the subject calms down) or contrast (the subject becomes irritated). Among the reefs discussed, the description of the limitations of human evaluators should provoke the most reflection and influence the course of recruitment and evaluation processes. The monograph ends with a researcher's handbook – an essential guide for anyone who wants to design a survey and analyse its results. While reading, you can consolidate your knowledge by solving crossword puzzles.

The monograph is an important methodological supplement for readers of MANAGEMENT REEFS: People Are Different From Screwdrivers.
