The model of public space confronted with suburban reality
The author confronts suburban recreational spaces with the model of urban public space, which is founded on three values: diversity, accessibility and public control. The basis for this confrontation is formed by the results of a survey study, observations of the behaviours of the users of the space and an analysis of spatial policies of selected suburban municipalities of Warsaw. The functional value of recreational spaces is assessed by measuring their prosocial character. The research is accompanied by a reflection on the social concept of space, the contemporary theory of place and public space.
