Karol Irzykowski in the Interwar Period. Studies and Discussions on the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of the Critic
This monograph, prepared by numerous authors, shows the figure of Karol Irzykowski in the interwar period, presenting the attitude of the critic towards the Young Poland movement and his interactions with the avant-garde. The articles synthetize Irzykowski’s reflections on the sensual representation of experience, pointing to his intellectual activity in the field of theatre and cinema. The authors address Irzykowski’s discussions with Marxism, his polemics critical of the Jews (the circle of “Wiadomości Literackie”), his attitude to the Polish Academy of Literature. The last bloc of texts is devoted to a unique clercism of the writer and the solitude resulting from it, shown against the background of other models of clercism in the context of literary geography and Irzykowski's accusations of anti-Semitism.
Keywords: literary criticism, interwar period, Karol Irzykowski, critical literary polemic, clerc.
