The heroine of the issue is Jadwiga Papi – a largely forgotten but important and interesting figure of Polish culture in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The authors of the articles not only calls for her presence in Polish cultural memory. They also show her in her many different social and literary roles. From all these perspectives emerges a complex, ambiguous and intriguing multiple portrait of Jadwiga Papi.
