The book presents the history of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition narrated from the anthropological-cultural perspective and based on extensive source material, which enabled the authors to explore the less known aspects of one of the most important music competitions in the world.

It is worthy of note that the authors use extensive source material: quotations from press releases (dailies, weeklies, music magazines) and official speeches, excerpts from critical and musicological texts, reviews, memoirs, diaries, official reports, foreign press reports, materials from the Polish Film Chronicle, documentaries, private and official correspondence, advertisements, radio announcements and internet forums. The work undertaken to reach and use the sources and the quotes reflects great credit on the authors.
Professor Waldemar Kuligowski

The book is a pioneering project in many respects. Although there is an extensive factual literature on the Chopin Competition, and numerous anecdotal sources, valuable for analysis, have been published, the history of the Chopin Competition has not been explored from the cultural history perspective and no attempts have been made to present it as a cultural phenomenon sensu stricto, adopting methodological approaches of modern humanities. It is such an attempt that the authors have made in this case.
Professor Krzysztof Moraczewski
